Protecting Your Company from ERISA 338 Fiduciary Liability

Speaker: John F. Reutemann, Jr., CLU, CFP®, Founder and CEO

Topic
The passage and imminent implementation of the Affordable are Act (ACA) has brought with it a renewed focus on employee benefit plans, and the sometimes onerous regulations that can accompany them. Unfortunately, the outsized focus on what the ACA will mean to the company’s bottom line has left many plan sponsors unprepared for the changing regulatory environment related to the other big piece of the benefit pie, the Company Retirement Plan. Indeed, according to a recent report by the DOL, nearly 3 out of 4 company retirement plan audits result in DOL action.

This session will focus on the four most common areas of ERISA non-compliance. You will learn strategies and action items to help plan sponsors comply with the new rules and mitigate the risk of liability for them and the company.

10:30 – 11:20AM

Meeting Financial Goals Across Cultures: When the Stakes are High

Speaker: Vicki Hudson, Chief Collaboration Officer

In the world of finance the stakes are always high, but risks increase when doing business across borders. Most objectives attached to finance have a timeline and a set of highly impactful results to meet, which means that effective execution is critical. When you bring a mix of cultures, languages, accents, and business approaches to the table, the stakes rise even higher. Can you navigate the challenges of a cross-cultural project and still deliver on time? How people view and interact with time is one of the most challenging aspects of intercultural business; approaches to deadlines and schedules come from deeply rooted beliefs. Even within the United States perceptions of time differ across regions. We will explore the role of time around the world, and how to ensure that financial timelines are met. Through case studies and demonstrations, we will also share some strategies for reducing the risk of missed deadlines and misunderstandings across borders. Learn the secret of how communication styles affect financial reporting and updates. Participants will take away concrete tools at the end of the presentation, as well as resources to continue the dialogue.
